Deal Me in Challenge: Let Me Promise You by Morley Callaghan
Card Drawn: 7 of Hearts.
Since I don't really have much to say about this short-story other than it was mediocre and completely forgettable, I made a meme instead that sums it up. Here is an interesting fact: not only was Morley Callaghan from my Canadian hometown of Toronto but he was also good friends with Ernest Hemingway back in the day. Pretty cool.
Well, it wasn't that bad; hence the two star rating. Sadly, the Canadian short-stories that I have read so far have only ranged from bad to decent. I'm still on the search for something great.
Oh yes, reading Updike is a welcome reprieve from the tantamount of disappointing Canadian stories :P
Well, that is a disturbing image and caption! You have persuaded me that I will not be reading that story! If you need to purge your mind, consider this: today is William Wordsworth's birthday; you could follow up reading of "I wandered lonely as a cloud" with some more of his short lyrics -- almost always a tonic for whatever ails a person.
Yes, thank you RT for reminding me about his birthday. I completely forgot and read my favorite poem by him: Tintern Abbey. Still working on the write up. Indeed, Wordsworth is one of my comfort reads.
Ugh! I'm sorry that it was so awful. Perhaps read some more Updike to make up for it! ;-)

ReplyDeleteExcellent, that was my intention with that meme.
